There are thousands of grapes that can be and that are made into wine around the world. Of those, there are only a couple of dozen that we think of as the noble varieties, or those that are considered to be the most special. Riesling is the most glorious of the white wine grapes. Sure, Chardonnay is more popular among the mainstream (and white Burgundy is a spectacular treat for anyone), and people who like goat cheese seem to have a soft spot for Sauvignon Blanc, but Riesling is different. Riesling has the kind of longevity that other whites can only dream of, and it has an almost unmatched ability to show its own soul wherever it is grown. Riesling is all about grace.
