This Rhone-style wine made by winemaker Tim Milos is a careful blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Counoise. For California jammy fruit fans, beware. Loomis wines are special exceptions to the Napa fruit parade, offering bright, clean and pure old world flavors. There is a definite Rhone-ish spiciness to go along with the complex fruit character of these flavorful grapes that is balanced by ample acidity. The aromas and flavors are dominated with Syrah characteristics such as leather and earth. For the price, there is a lot of flavor packed in this bottle. - Jeff Prather

This is a classic Chardonnay from one of the veteran wineries in the Central Coast region. Sourced from their estate vineyards, these Chardonnay grapes exhibit bright acidity and elegant flavors that are the hallmark of Talley's wines, thanks largely to the judicious use of oak. This wine has plenty of lively flavors and proudly exhibits a dark ruby color with aromas of spicy blackberries and black cherries along with hints of tobacco and earthiness that are so typical of Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, where the grape is also called Tinto Fino. In the mouth, this wine has great expressions of dried dark fruit and a bit of spice with an excellent texture. Great value! - Jeff Prather

This is a delightful Rose full of mouthwatering pink and red fruit flavors. It has a lovely bright coral color that is appealing to the eye and a perfume that speaks of spring. Bright and refreshing, the palate tastes like watermelon and ripe cherry. There is enough acid to balance out the fruit but the overall texture in the mouth is quite soft and oh-so-easy to swallow. Born of teetotaler parents, Joseph Swan became a winemaker early on when using his mother's household machines to make his first "vintage". Using rhubarb from the garden, he worked his mother's ringer washing machine, pressing the juice and pouring it into a cooking crock to ferment. He eventually bought vineyards in 1967, working with mostly Zinfandel grapes until he was convinced to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Joseph passed away over 20 years ago, but his wines continue on as some of the finest from Sonoma. This cuve comes from the famed Saralee's Vineyard, lightly aged in oak, so the tart cherry and spice aromas shine along with the aromas of roses and potpourri. This is a beautifully elegant Pinot Noir that should not be missed. - Jeff Prather

Furmint is best known for its use in producing the world-class dessert wine, Tokaji Aszu, from Hungary. This is a completely different take on this grape, it is vinified bone-dry with brilliant acidity. It has amazing acidity and is quite refreshing. The wine exhibits wonderful melon fruit flavors along with some citrus notes and finishes light, dry, and elegant. This is a new twist on a traditionally sweet grape. - Jeff Prather

Luli Wines is a partnership between Master Sommelier Sara Floyd and the Pisoni Family of Monterey County. Together, they make wonderful and enjoyable wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands, one of the best regions in California to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This is the first year that Sarah and Jeff Pisoni have produced a Syrah. Jeff crafts this Syrah into one of the best bargains from this top notch region. Julie Johnson, formerly of Frogs Leap, has been making lovely wines for her own label, Tres Sabores. This zippy and pleasant white is particularly citrusy surrounded by herbal, slightly grassy notes. The classic citrus, herb, and hay aromas and flavors of Sauvignon are present along with a bit of sage bouquet and mineral notes. It has intense aromatics, melon, and grapefruit rind flavors while still preserving the crisp acidity that Sauvignon Blanc is known for. It will be perfect when accompanying grilled fish, an array of fresh vegetables, or simply served chilled on the patio. - Jeff Prather
