The house of Bereche has been making Champagne since 1847, but only in small amounts mostly for family consumption and not enough for commercial production. It wasn't until 1950 when Pierre Bereche married Solage from Reims that the estate doubled in size to a whopping 5 hectares, and a good portion of that fruit went to negotiants. In the 1970's, Pierre's son, Jean-Pierre, expanded the estate to 9.5 hectares and stopped selling their stock to negotiants taking all the production in house for the Bereche family to maintain their own quality standards. Equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this Brut Reserve is a classic Champagne in the toasty brioche style with a rich creamy texture. Red fruit flavors from the Pinot Noir and Meunier dominate the palate with a little juicy red apple. A clean, chalky minerality comes through on the long and focused finish. It is a well balanced "gourmand" or food (vs aperitif) Champagne that would be a great partner to a richly flavored dinner.
