Dolcetto means "little sweet one" and it refers to the smallish, early ripening red grape that the folks of Piedmont in northern Italy planted to satisfy the birds so they would move on before the prized Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo ripened. It is not widely grown in California. This particular bottling from winemaker Rob Lawson is a delicious, deeply-flavored, dark-colored red wine with lots of facets of flavor. The nose is full of bright cherry and plum aromas, while in the mouth there are pronounced flavors of ripe raspberries. The wine is lush without being overly extracted and shows excellent balance throughout the long finish. Bravo to Rob Lawson for producing a bargain of a tasty Italianesque wine. Plus, as a bonus, it is made of organically grown grapes. - Jeff Prather

When the Fetzer family sold their very successful winery in Mendocino to a conglomerate a number of years ago, they all signed an agreement that prevented them from launching a new winery for an extended period. That agreement, fortunately, has now expired. John fetzer has re-entered the wine arena with organically farmed Saracina Winery, the producer of Atrea wines. This refreshing pink wine is made from organic Malbec grapes from the Skid Row Vineyard and carries the perfume of rose petals and muscat. It has a light touch of fruit in the middle of wild raspberries and is balanced by clean, citrusy acid with a lean, bright finish. Refreshing value!

This is a delightful Rose full of mouthwatering pink and red fruit flavors. It has a lovely bright coral color that is appealing to the eye and a perfume that speaks of spring. Bright and refreshing, the palate tastes like watermelon and ripe cherry. There is enough acid to balance out the fruit but the overall texture in the mouth is quite soft and oh-so-easy to swallow. Sancerre is the name of a wine appellation as well as a city. The region makes up the easternmost extension of the Loire Valley. A true Sancerre is characteristically restrained rather than exuberant, perfumed with citrus and chalk rather than bold fruit. The aromas and flavors are of lime, grapefruit, lemon, flowers and sometimes of herbs, and minerality. Vacheron is widely considered to be the gold standard by which many Sancerre are judged. Masut, which means "dark rich earth," was founded by third generation vintners and brothers Benjamin and Jacob Fetzer in Mendocino County, California. This is very drinkable with ripe, round fruit and wonderful depth of flavor and color. It is redolent with black cherries and root beer from the generous oak aging. It is balanced by good acidity and a hint of tannin on the long finish. This wine is very friendly in texture and flavor. This Pinot will bring a smile to any Pinot lover's face, particularly if they like the bolder, more powerful version over the lighter more delicate style. - Jeff Prather
