This 2012 Grand Cru Les Blassinges is a lovely of expression of 100% Chasselas from Pierre-Luc Leyvraz in Saint Saphorin, in the Vaud region of Switzerland. Saint Saphorin is an impossibly stunning appellation on the edge of the mountains overlooking Lake Geneva. The extreme severely terraced vineyards descend down to the edge of the highway next to the border of the lake and are planted primarily to the Chasselas grape, common to Switzerland and the Savoie region of France. This has all the breed and class expected from the appellation with its minerality and bright acidity. It is medium bodied and has a slight honeyed note on the clean finish. It's a classic pairing with Alpine cheeses and of course the mainstay of Swiss cuisine, raclette and fondue. An intriguing, delicious wine.
