This Rhone-style wine made by winemaker Tim Milos is a careful blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Counoise. For California jammy fruit fans, beware. Loomis wines are special exceptions to the Napa fruit parade, offering bright, clean and pure old world flavors. There is a definite Rhone-ish spiciness to go along with the complex fruit character of these flavorful grapes that is balanced by ample acidity. The aromas and flavors are dominated with Syrah characteristics such as leather and earth. For the price, there is a lot of flavor packed in this bottle. - Jeff Prather

This blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise from Redortier reflects the charm of the twin sisters that run the property. It is ripe, round, and smooth with lovely blackberry flavors and a hint of peppery spice on the long finish. This wine is nicely structured with fine tannins that support the fruit but don't intrude on the flavors. This is a delicious value from the Rhone. - Jeff Prather

This Syrah is a crowd pleaser! It is full of big, bold flavors featuring ripe fruit and plenty of it. It is lavished with some spicy oak that adds complexity to this deep plummy and ripe boysenberry wine with subtle meaty notes. In the glass, the color is dark purple and it's concentration is the first clue that this wine is very extracted with incredible intensity. This juicy wine would be delicious with grilled meats, stews, or hearty cheeses. - Jeff Prather

Sumptuous fruit. Those two words pretty much sum up the first impression you get with Chocolate Block. The Rhone varietals in the blend seem to dominate this immense wine with loads of full-bodied, dark fruit flavors. This year it is 72% Syrah, 7% Grenache, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cinsault, and 2% Viognier. It is definitely unusual in content, but it is equally as appealing upon first sip. - Jeff Prather

Air is a rose in color only, conceived, grown and blended as a Rhone-inspired fusion of four classic varietals: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Counoise. Dry and crisp, Air is picked specifically for the flavors that come early in ripening: rose petal, strawberry, minerals, and natural acidity. Aromas of cherry, citrus, and bright herbs are in the nose mixed with a bouquet of melons. This wine is aged in neutral French oak barrels to give it a roundness and soft mouthfeel. - Jeff Prather

Luli Wines is a partnership between Master Sommelier Sara Floyd and the Pisoni Family of Monterey County. Together, they make wonderful and enjoyable wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands, one of the best regions in California to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This is the first year that Sarah and Jeff Pisoni have produced a Syrah. Jeff crafts this Syrah into one of the best bargains from this top notch region. It is a big, juicy version of Syrah with some typical leathery notes that are given a rich oak treatment to round out the flavor profile. - Jeff Prather
