Tierra Alta Vineyard is in the upper reaches of Ballard Canyon, which is in the Santa Ynez Valley. The 1200 ft elevation and clay/limestone soils result in a wine that is the most delicate of the three Grenache-based wines made by Comartin Cellars, with expressive red cherry and pomegranate fruit, bright acidity and gentle tannins.Peter Granoff

This is a bright, tasty, refreshing red blend of Grenache 38%, Mourvedre 29%, Syrah 20%, Cinsault 11%, Counoise 2% that has plenty of acid to balance out its ample flavors. The blend roughly follows those of the Southern Rhone and has as much charm as many of the wines from that wonderful region.

This is another stunning example of what great wines are coming out of the Southern Rhone in the 2009 vintage. This wine literally bursts from the glass with spicy flavors of smoked meat, dark berries, and a delicate earthy finish with great acidity. It is comprised of the famous Rhone trio: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre grapes. It is very dark in color and quite concentrated in flavor with extracted blackberry fruit, grippy tannins, and a rich, elegantly long finish. This is very drinkable today, but will absolutely shine with a few years of age. - Jeff Prather
